What is Sublimation Printing?

What is Sublimation Printing?

Sublimation printing is a state-of-the-art service that is rapidly growing in popularity. Now being offered by MBLEM Wear, it is the process where full colour images are transferred onto a range of items. Here’s everything you need to know about sublimation printing.

How exactly does it work?

The technique is reliant on having a high quality printer, advanced software and high absorption printing paper. These three components are the first stage in transferring an image onto an item using specialised ink. When the ink is heated – typically to a minimum temperature of 180°C – it has the ability to penetrate certain fibres and permanently dye them.

What is the benefit of sublimation printing?

People are rapidly starting to favour sublimation printing over other methods of transferring prints – and with good reason. Over the years more traditional methods have sparked complaints that the prints aren’t the same after a few washes. In most cases, the prints have been known to fade after a few washes. In other cases, the prints have actually cracked. This is unlikely to happen when using sublimation printing so people get more use out of their items in the long run.

What items can prints be transferred onto?

Sublimation printing can be used on everything from metal to glass. Prints can also be transferred onto a wide range of clothing. This includes T-shirts, bibs, and sportswear. The prints aren’t heavy, meaning that all the items – especially clothing – won’t end up weighing more afterwards.

How is sublimation printing best used?

Sublimation printing is a great form of branding because it promotes teamwork and individuality. In terms of sportswear, the process can assist with the creation of a logo or badge. Because it’s all done digitally, it means there’s a lot of freedom to craft a bespoke design that stands out from the crowd.

Should you choose sublimation printing?

To put it simply: yes! The entire process is quick and inexpensive, and assures long-term quality. It also gives you the freedom to have your say down to the final detail and create something truly individual.
